STRIVING ABOUT WORDS…THE DANGER OF…

“Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.  And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;  Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.” 2 Timothy 2:14-18.

Hymenaeus and Philegus are still with us. You can identify them as they strive to take words out of context and the overall scope of Scripture. These pretend to site the Greek, the Latin, and Egyptian hieroglyphs. They do this to remove you from the faith you were grounded and settled in. The cover land and sea to make one proselyte who is more a child of hell than themselves. Don’t fall for adage, “I have studied this and thus it is so.” There are some on Face Book who would take you down this road of destruction. Don’t follow them! “ But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:14-17.
